But this post isn't about food at all.
No, it's about a book!
I love books too, and I found a book at a thrift shop several months ago, and it's called Popcorn! It is full of fun little poems by James Stevenson, and I find it so fitting for the area I live in, and for summer as well, which it finally was feeling like again after a downright nippy 4th of July!!
So tonight I thought I'd share a poem (or 2) from this fun little book! Enjoy!
Driftwood
Scattered along the beach today
are logs, branches, tree trunks,
boards, sticks, planks, and railroad ties.
When did they get here?
How far did they come?
How hard was the trip?
How long will they stay?
Some may stay for years and years,
Sinking in the sand.
Others will leave on the first high tide.
But which is which?
When we come back tomorrow,
We'll see.
Picnic Table
The hot dogs, the mustard,
The paper plates, the ketchup,
The napkins, potato chips,
The lemonade,
The chocolate cake and ice cream -
All gone.
But under the apple tree
The table waits
For next time.
(Okay, so I'll share one more......)
Pirate
Out of the fog
Crept a raggedy cat.
You could tell
By the way he moved,
You could tell
By the way he turned,
He was a pirate,
And the fog
Was his ocean.
That's all for now! Sweet dreams, sweet daydreams!
Let your mind be poetic as you sit out in the sunshine, and smell the salt sea air.
Close your eyes and listen to whatever you hear. Write a few poems of your own. : )
Good night.
